Following our basketmaking cultural tour to the Azores in May 2017, Basketry and Beyond is planning another island adventure this time in Cyprus.
Basketmaking in Cyprus- A 7 day visit from the 12 th to 19 th May 2018
Booking forms are available now for the Basketry and Beyond trip to Cyprus with Hilary Burns and Geraldine Jones
The trip will include 15 hours of practical basketry experience with Cypriot basketmakers. In several short workshops, that will be held over the course of your stay in various locations around the island, you will have the opportunity to prepare the local materials and weave some of the traditional basketry styles.
In this way we will visit and explore different areas- from Paphos to Larnaca and Nicosia, up into the Troodos mountains and around the coastal villages of Southern Cyprus. In addition to the practical basketmaking, sightseeing trips to interesting and out of the way locations, museums and archaeological sites will be offered. Local artist Alexandra Pambouka, from Nicosia, will be our interpreter.
Self-catering accommodation will be at The Cookery School at Paramythas, where a day course in Cypriot cookery will be on offer for those of you who might be interested. Kitchen facilities at the school are available for cooking our own meals. Some fresh food and a well-stocked store of basic groceries will be provided on arrival. During the week you will be able to supplement this with foodstuff from the local market and shops in the village
A welcome meal will be provided on Sunday 13 th May, when we will choose from the suggested options for outings, and plan a preferred itinerary for the week ahead.
The cost will be £ 850. This includes workshop fees, accommodation (shared room with twin beds, supplement payable for a single room), transport around the island, a larder stocked with basics and transport to and from the airports in Cyprus at specified times (t.b.c).
Airfares are NOT included and you are responsible for your own flight booking. You need to have travel insurance in place. We will need to see documentation for this.
